If every hero had to maintain a secret identity, then every movie by necessity would need some narrative element about keeping that secret safe, which would have quickly become staid and dull. By removing secret identities from the equation, the MCU has actually improved on some of its source material, making it more personal and resonant. The practicalities of secret identities are also an issue in these films.
The MCU asks audiences to suspend their disbelief about super powers, armored flying nano-suits, and magic gems that can unmake reality, but audiences can only accept so much fantasy before they tune out. Marvel as any villain pulls off her mask. And now, with his identity out in the open, Peter Parker will have to reckon with all of that, plus public scandal. And the lesson, particularly for Peter, is what is growing up for real. How exposure might help Peter remains to be seen, but at least from a storytelling perspective, it will be a break from the previous two Spider-Man films.
That sort of growth would have happened regardless of whether Sony and Disney patched up their relationship, and Spider-Man stayed in the MCU. The difference is whether Spider-Man would have had any other heroes to lean on while he goes through this new phase.
That might have been a positive step for the character , but it would have been a major break with the past. It didn't really know what to do with itself, and while Kate Bishop was a lively addition to the game, following up one Hawkeye with another, more boring Hawkeye just feels stupid. While it was supposed to distance itself from the MCU, the character designs and personalities were a clear So why, when WandaVision was the biggest show on television at the start of the year, was there no Wanda tie-in?
Shang-Chi's record breaking box office was missed, as was anything connected to Loki or Falcon when they were pumping out weekly episodes. Even Black Widow, a character already in the game, got nothing but some skins to acknowledge her final flick in the MCU canon, and her passing of the torch to Yelena.
I understand crafting new characters like this would have been difficult given the development pipeline, but crossover quests, skins, or seasonal updates would have been something. Instead we got almost nothing. It hasn't been all bad. Kate Bishop seemed like the start of the game's revival, even if a Final Fantasy 14 arc was always unlikely. The lack of enthusiasm for Clint sent everything back to square one, but then the meaty War for Wakanda expansion pack , complete with Christopher Judge as Black Panther, built up more momentum.
By this point, it's common knowledge that Marvel's Avengers will include DLC characters , but so far Crystal Dynamics hasn't said who it's considering. It seems like everyone excited for the game has made a "Top 10 DLC Characters" list , and the number of potential candidates is longer than Galactus is tall. While it remains unclear who is or isn't being considered by Crystal Dynamics, the developer has established that the characters won't be reskins. Amos revealed that every DLC character will have their own storylines and skills that will make them play differently from the game's core cast.
This doesn't necessarily rule out any characters, but it implies that superheroes with unique powers that aren't comparable to those of other Avengers might make the cut. That meant for the first time in the character's history in live-action he could interact with other big-name Marvel heroes and even potentially join the Avengers at some point. They were on their way to Titan with Doctor Strange when Tony Stark officially made Spider-Man a member of the team and the look on Peter Parker's face when it happened was a combination of honor and shock.
To him, it was unexpected but also something he longed for. It took Peter a moment to take it all in, but he ultimately rejected the proposal because he wanted to remain grounded and simply be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He wanted to help someone find their lost bicycle and give an elderly woman directions.
